These images are part of an ongoing project. They are made with Hokusaiís “36 Views of Mount Fuji” in mind. The IJsselmeer is an inland sea in the Netherlands that has contributed to the national identity and cultural mythology of the nation in ways that are similar to the role of Mount Fuji in the Japanese nation building process. In the series, the IJsselmeer is both the setting and the element that binds all the scenes together. 18 Views of the IJsselmeer is a travel guide to this mythological region, providing images of places that stay on your mind long after the main attractions are forgotten.
