Greenhouses
If no-one had told me that you can eat pigs, I don’t think that I would ever have arrived at that concept by myself. And even now, after half a life of eating meat, it often strikes me as a bizarre habit.
In the struggle which Darwin so aptly labelled “the survival of the fittest”, Homo Sapiens has taken a significant lead over the other species. We have claimed for ourselves the right to submit and manipulate life forms that are useful or essential to our own survival. We have created justifications for this in many forms, ranging from religion, via health and well-being, to economics. We believe we have earned the right to dominate.“Greenhouses” explores artificial worlds where this right is exercised every day. If microchip factories are the cathedrals of industrial production, greenhouses are its village chapels. The worshipping is mundane and the congregations are small but the services are performed with the same intensity each day.
